Frequently Asked Questions, Answered.

  • Jewellery Care Guide – SaCobra Gems

Your SaCobra Gems piece is crafted with precision and deserves the same level of care. Proper maintenance will ensure your jewellery remains beautiful for years to come.

    Daily Care

    • Remove jewellery before showering, swimming, or exercising.

    • Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, hairspray, and household chemicals.

    • Put jewellery on last and take it off first.

    Cleaning

    • Clean gold and platinum pieces with warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush.

    • Dry thoroughly with a lint‑free cloth.

    • Avoid harsh cleaners unless specifically designed for fine jewellery.

    Gemstone Care

    • Diamonds: durable but still prone to oil buildup — clean regularly.

    • Sapphires & Rubies: strong stones but avoid extreme heat or chemicals.

    • Emeralds: softer and often treated — clean gently with a damp cloth only.

    • Opals & Pearls: delicate — avoid water immersion and store separately.

    Storage

    • Store pieces individually in soft pouches or lined boxes to prevent scratches.

    • Keep jewellery away from direct sunlight and humidity.

    Professional Maintenance

We recommend a professional clean and inspection every 6–12 months, especially for rings. This helps ensure claws, settings, and stones remain secure.

    • Cut - A well cut diamond, regardless of carat weight will generally be more expensive than a poorly cut diamond of the same size. The cut grade significantly influences that diamond's brilliance, fire and overall beauty making it a crucial factor in a gemstones pricing. We will always prioritise cut quality to provide the most sparkle for your money.

    • Colour - Diamond colour is a crucial factor in pricing. Colourless diamonds being among the most expensive but fancy coloured diamonds commanding the highest prices. The GIA colour scale provides a standardised way to assess and compare diamond colours.

When buying a diamond consider your budget a personal colour preference and beautiful diamonds are available across all of the colour spectrum.

    • Clarity - There are different levels of clarity when grading. Clarity affects how clean the stone looks. Clarity depends on the amount and type of inclusions a stone may have. Some inclusions tell the story of where the stone originated from, country and region etc.

Eye-Clean - Many people prioritise this level of clarity. Inclusions are not visible by the naked eye. Inclusions are graded on an inclusion scale. Where a stone ends up on this scale is determined by the number and type of inclusions a stone has. Higher grades have higher prices.

There is a diamond for every budget.

    • Carat - Diamond carat is a unit of weight not size. It is used to measure a diamonds mass. One carat or CT is equal to 200milligrams or 0.2grams. It is important to understand that carat measures weights while other factors like cut, colour and clarity affects the diamonds size and overall appearance. Larger diamonds generally weigh more carats, but a poorly cut larger diamond might appear smaller and less brilliant than a smaller well-cut diamond.

UNOFFICIALLY there is a 5th “C” now. and it is “Country”. This is also important as a stone’s origin plays a part in its value. Natural stones from certain countries are worth considerably more than others. This has always played a significant role in the pricing of gemstones in particular, coloured ones but for some strange reason never made it to the list of “C”s.

If you have ever heard someone, say the words…

    “Columbian” Emerald

    “Burma” Ruby or

    “Kashmir” Sapphire

    well now you know why.

  • What is a LAB diamond?

Lab grown diamonds are diamonds created in a laboratory environment. They are chemically, physically, and optically identical to natural diamonds.

Lab grown diamonds are real diamonds produced in a controlled setting. They are grown in two ways: a High Pressure, High Temperature (HPHT) process that mimics their natural formation in the Earth, or a Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process. Both processes begin with a pure carbon seed arranged in a crystalline structure and result in a lab diamond that is identical to a mined diamond. Lab grown diamonds are available in colourless ranges and rare and fancy colours

    Types of Lab Grown Diamonds

With the naked eye, it’s impossible to differentiate between natural diamonds, HPHT lab diamonds, and CVD lab diamonds; only experts can identify subtle markers related to growth conditions. Both methods yield real diamonds with no differences in durability or quality, differing only in growth patterns and production time.

High Pressure High Temperature Lab Diamonds

This method mimics the natural conditions under which diamonds form inside the Earth. A diamond seed is placed in a chamber and subjected to intense heat (over 2,000 degrees Celsius) and pressure (1.5 million pounds per square inch). The carbon atoms in the chamber bond with the seed, crystallizing into a diamond.

    Chemical Vapor Deposition Lab Diamonds

CVD diamonds grow when a thin piece of diamond seed is placed in a vacuum chamber filled with a carbon-rich gas mixture (typically methane and hydrogen) that’s heated to break down the gas molecules. Carbon atoms settle onto the seed, building layer by layer until the diamond reaches its desired size. Some CVD diamonds undergo additional pressure and heat treatment after growth.

    Are Lab Grown Diamonds Real?

Yes, lab grown diamonds are as real as natural diamonds are. Their only difference is origin. Lab created diamonds are grown in laboratory settings, while natural diamonds form deep within in the earth. Chemically, physically, and optically, lab diamonds are identical to natural diamonds, with the same hardness, brilliance, and fire.

A common misconception is that lab created diamonds lack certain qualities of natural diamonds, but they are indistinguishable—only experts using advanced laboratory equipment can detect subtle differences in their growth patterns.

Lab diamonds also undergo the same grading process as natural diamonds: an assessment of the 4C's — cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. Reputable gemmological labs, such as the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) tend to grade and certify natural stones and the International Gemmological Institute (IGI), certify lab created diamonds using the same standards as those applied to natural diamonds.

    Lab Grown vs. Natural Diamond

The only difference between natural and lab created diamonds is where they come from. Natural diamonds form deep beneath the Earth’s surface under extreme conditions of heat and pressure over billions of years. In contrast, lab diamonds are produced in weeks to months from diamond seeds with the same chemical composition as natural diamonds. Without specialized equipment, it’s nearly impossible to tell lab created diamonds apart from natural ones. Though there are no physical differences between the two, here's how they contrast:

    Origin

Lab-grown diamonds are produced in a controlled laboratory setting, whereas natural diamonds are extracted through mining from the Earth.

    Price

Lab grown diamonds typically cost less than natural diamonds of comparable quality due to processes becoming more efficient and cost effective.

    Rarity

Natural diamonds are much rarer than lab-grown diamonds, hence the prices they can command. Because of their limited quantity, natural diamonds have been cherished for their enduring value and passed from generation to generation.

  • 💍 Script: “Operation Ring Size”

    Scene 1 — The Setup

Ok, mission brief: To find their ring size without them catching on. You’ll need stealth, charm, and maybe a bit of help from their family or best mate.

    Step 1 — Reconnaissance:

    • Casually notice which finger they wear rings on. (Ideally, you’ll want the wedding ring finger)

    • Borrow one “for comparison” — say, “That looks great on you, can I see it?”

    • Slip it onto your own finger and mark where it stops (or take a quick photo).

Step 2 — The Ally Move:

    • Enlist their best friend or relative. They’ll know her jewellery habits.

    • Ask them to “borrow” a ring they wear on their ring finger.

    • Take it to a jeweller — they’ll measure it in seconds.

Scene 2 — The Covert Operation

Narrator: If they dont wear rings, time for creative tactics.

Option A — The Sleep Strategy: While their asleep, gently wrap a thin strip of paper or string around the ring finger. Mark where it overlaps, measure it in millimetres, and check a ring size chart online.

Option B — The Crafty Compliment: Say, “I saw a ring online that reminded me of you — what size are you again?” Act casual. If they answer, you’ve won.

Option C — The Trial Run: Take them shopping “for fun” and wander into a jewellery store. Encourage them to try on rings “just for style or fun.” Note the size the jeweller mentions — mission complete.

    Scene 3 — The Reveal

Narrator: Once you’ve got the size, double‑check with a jeweller — they can adjust slightly if needed. Remember: it’s better to go a half‑size larger than smaller. A ring that’s too tight kills the moment faster than a bad proposal speech.

  • We price based on project type and complexity. After an initial conversation, we’ll provide a transparent quote with no hidden costs.

We structure our pricing so that we are cheaper than other Jewellers offering the same services and we have consistently achieved this without compromising on the quality or service.

  • We combine a thoughtful, human-centered approach with clear communication and reliable results. It’s not just what we do—it’s how we do it that sets us apart.
